The Hunt
About a year after we completed our first renovation together, John & I had our first child and ended up doing a small second renovation for our son's room. Then about a year after that, we started the hunt with his business partner for a house. We were looking for a duplex, to share, that could accommodate both my large wish list as well as our friends... a tough one by any standard.
My list included; four bedrooms, two bathrooms, large living room, fireplace, area for washing machine and dryer, nice details, lots of sunlight, big windows, back yard and a minimum of three parking spaces (not readily available in downtown Toronto). I wasn't too worried about doing a renovation, but I had assumed it would be fairly small reno, perhaps a new kitchen or bathroom. Our agent and friend, Paul Butt, laughed when I told him I wanted four bedrooms and basically told me it wasn't going to happen. I smiled, knowing that it would.
We at first looked in Roncesvalles, then further East, then further West, then further North! By the end of our search we had basically looked any where from Bathurst to West of High Park and from King Street to Lawrence Avenue. A fairly large area of Toronto, pretty much the whole of the West side of Toronto.
One afternoon while I was at work and diligently searching MLS with John on the phone, we saw our house. I said I'd drive by after work, I did and the rest as they say is history!
